Baker to Vegas race needs volunteers

One great use for your amateur radio license is helping provide communication for various events. The Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay is a foot race for law enforcement personnel. This a relay foot race that runs in California & Nevada from Baker to Vegas. It has run annually for many years. Teams compete from all over the world. In 2019 it is being held on March 23. This is the web site.

The hams provide necessary communication throughout the race at each "station". There are 20 stations that are spaced from 5 to 10 miles apart. Each team has 20 or more participants that run from one stage to the next. The hams are stationed at each stage to inform the officials of the approach of runners and announce it to the crowd to prepare for the next person waiting to take the relay torch.

For more info and a history of the race, just Google "Baker to Vegas".

Volunteers can contact myself or one of the managers. Joy Matlack, KD6FJV is primary. Any ham from anywhere can assist. No need to live in the area. There are motels and RV parks available. Many participants park their RVs at the station they are assigned to.

You can see some pictures of past events on my QRZ page. Also there are some Youtube videos on past events.

Note: this site is provided free. Donations are accepted to help support the work. Click here for instructions.
