How to Make Yahoo the default e-mail in Internet Explorer

7-18-07- FINALLY GOT A SOLUTION!!!

And in late 2008, it changed again. Now you just download Messenger 9.0

OOps- now it changed again in 2009!!! Now you need the Yahoo toolbar

from http://toolbar.yahoo.com/

See this document for current instructions on making Yahoo Mail as the default e-mail program.

Once you have completed this simple procedure, you will have Yahoo as your default. FINALLY

Why make Yahoo your default?

Background: If you are like me and use Yahoo as your primary way to send and receive e-mail, you have a problem.
As you surf the web and find a web page that has an e-mail link and you want to send an e-mail using that link.
If you click it, Outlook or Outlook Express opens. You can tell that it is an e-mail link by looking at the status bar
on the bottom (provided you have it turned on- View/Status bar). It will show "mailto" in your IE status bar.
Clicking the link opens whatever program is set as the default in IE.
You can see the default that is currently set by opening Internet Options.
You can get there from Control Panel or by opening IE & using the Tools menu.
Once there, click the Programs tab & the default e-mail will probably be Outlook Express or maybe Outlook.

Now with Windows 10 it got easier. There are 2 ways to make Yahoo the default. You can go to the Mail app on the desktop & select Add. Or you can just go to the App in the store.
